Family rescued from dark trails using advanced 911 technology

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a successful rescue operation involving a family lost while hiking near Fox Lake Park. The family, which included two young children, became disoriented as darkness fell and was unable to find their way back. Although the incident fell outside the jurisdiction of the local department, the sheriff's office was notified and coordinated the response.

Utilizing advanced technology that only about 1% of departments in Florida possess, the local 911 center was able to track the family's location in real-time. This technology allowed dispatchers to guide the family back to their vehicle in under five minutes, alleviating their fears during a tense situation. The family had initially entered the trails from the park's launch ramp and followed various trail markers before losing their way.

Officials expressed pride in the 911 center's initiative, noting that the technology was developed internally and provided at no cost to the city by the vendor. This incident highlights the importance of innovative solutions in emergency response and the effectiveness of local agencies in ensuring public safety. The meeting also included updates on other departmental activities, including traffic unit operations led by Lieutenant DeLoach, who is currently overseas.
