Residents outraged over secretive tiny home development plans

Residents of Raleigh, Texas, expressed strong opposition during a recent government meeting regarding a proposed replat of a 10-acre property on Dreyer Road. Stanley Pollard, a long-time resident and family member of the property owner, voiced concerns about a lack of communication from the property owner, Roberto Rodriguez, regarding plans to subdivide the land into seven lots for tiny homes.

Pollard highlighted that many neighbors were unaware of the proposed changes until they received notification letters dated May 28, 2024, just days before the meeting. He emphasized that the community felt blindsided, as discussions about the replat had been ongoing since early 2024 without adequate outreach to local residents.

The proposal includes the addition of five new homes to the existing two on the property, with potential sizes ranging from 500 to 1,200 square feet. Pollard raised concerns about the suitability of the area for such developments, citing issues with existing properties and the overall condition of the neighborhood.

In response to the opposition, staff clarified that the applicant had fulfilled notification requirements as mandated by the commission. However, Pollard's remarks underscored a growing distrust among residents regarding the property owner's intentions and the handling of the replat process.

The meeting concluded with the commission considering the feedback from the community as they deliberate on the future of the proposed development.
