Community leaders demand safer development plans for Happy Valley

During a recent government meeting, concerns were raised by the vice chairman of the Happy Valley Homeowners Preservation Association regarding a proposed development project that could significantly impact the local community. The association has reviewed two options presented by the developer and indicated a willingness to support the original proposal, provided that the developer commits to not having an exit onto Sleepy Hollow. This condition stems from the belief that the original plan would better serve the community and mitigate adverse effects.

The vice chairman highlighted issues with the culvert, noting that it has not been graded for weight and could pose problems for the development. Additionally, concerns were raised about the proposed homes potentially being situated in wetlands, despite the developer's assurances to the contrary.

The association firmly stated its opposition to conditional zoning, advocating instead for the original plan that would involve a road crossing New Haw Creek Road to access the proposed townhouses. The vice chairman concluded by deferring to others to address the broader implications of the townhouse development, reiterating the importance of prioritizing the community's interests in the planning process.
