Land use proposal sparks heated public debate

In a recent government meeting, the council addressed a significant land use entitlement request from Ramda Properties, Nevada, LLC, concerning a major amendment to an approved site development plan for a multifamily residential project. The proposal involves changes to an existing eleven-unit development located on 20 acres at 306 North 9th Street, which includes plans for a seven-unit addition.

The Planning Commission has recommended approval of the amendment; however, city staff has advised against it, citing concerns over inadequate parking. The original site plan included a waiver allowing for only one parking stall instead of the eleven required, based on the installation of a 68-foot tall automated rotary drive parking structure designed to accommodate 20 vehicles. The current proposal seeks to eliminate this elevator parking mechanism in favor of additional parking stalls, which staff argues does not adequately address the site's ongoing parking deficiencies.

During the public hearing, representatives from Ramda Properties, including Michael Banzi and Bruce Langston, expressed their commitment to resolving longstanding issues associated with the property. They acknowledged the challenges faced and indicated their intention to move the project forward positively.
