Zionsville approves controversial self-storage facility development

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed two significant development projects in Zionsville. The first project involves a self-storage facility planned for a 10-acre site. The facility will include 788 storage units, primarily in a climate-controlled area. Officials assured that the project has been reviewed by the fire department and other technical committees, confirming that emergency access is adequate. Community members expressed appreciation for the developers' efforts to engage with local residents and address concerns about the facility's location.

The second project is an amendment to the Union Woodlands Development Plan. This amendment increases the number of approved lots from 179 to 183. The development will feature a mix of residential lots in both rural single-family and agricultural districts. The plan includes commitments to enhance landscaping along the southern property line to buffer existing homes.

During the meeting, concerns were raised regarding the proximity of the development to the Hamilton County Airport. An attorney representing the airport authority highlighted issues related to drainage and access roads, emphasizing the need for compliance with FAA guidelines regarding detention ponds. The developer assured that they would address these concerns and maintain commitments related to landscaping and architectural design.

Both projects received unanimous approval from the board, marking a step forward in Zionsville's development efforts.
