Community mourns sudden loss of beloved leader James Ross

During a recent school board meeting, the Jackson Madison County School System (JMCSS) community came together to honor the memory of James Ross, a beloved member of the community who passed away unexpectedly. The meeting opened with a heartfelt prayer led by a board member, emphasizing the collective grief and the need for comfort during this difficult time.

Following the prayer, the board reviewed its mission statement, which focuses on providing equitable opportunities in a safe environment that maximizes student potential. The meeting then shifted to staff and student recognition, highlighting significant achievements within the school system.

Dr. Marlon King, the superintendent of JMCSS, was awarded the title of Superintendent of the Year for the Southwest region by the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents (TOS). Dr. Gary Lilly, the executive director of TOS, presented the award, praising Dr. King for his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public education. Lilly noted that this recognition was a testament to Dr. King's influence and respect among his peers.

The meeting also celebrated the accomplishments of students involved in various extracurricular activities. Notably, London Murphy and Dallas Weddle from Southside High School received the prestigious Veil State Award from Tennessee 4-H, recognizing their leadership and community service. London was also appointed as the state 4-H council representative, while Dallas completed his term as the western region area representative. Both students were presented with gift bags in recognition of their achievements.

The meeting concluded with congratulations to the students for their contributions, reinforcing the school system's commitment to fostering leadership and community involvement among its students.
