Students Shine in Innovative Yearbook Project

During a recent SCSBA meeting, discussions primarily revolved around potential new bylaws expected to be introduced in January. While the meeting lacked significant updates, it highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance inclusivity within the school community.

One notable mention was the commendable work of Matt O'Reilly, a teacher recognized for his innovative approach in involving students, particularly those in the Special Education (SPED) program, in yearbook photography. O'Reilly modified a camera to accommodate students who typically face challenges in using standard equipment, fostering a more inclusive environment.

Additionally, a visit to the Willie B. Atkins program at the high school was acknowledged, with gratitude expressed towards Judge Davis, Lashonda Wallace, and Dr. Kelly for their oversight, as well as Miss Jefferson for her role as a teacher. The visit underscored the positive interactions between students and staff, reinforcing the appreciation for the educational environment.

The meeting also touched on the upcoming Community Advisory Panel (CAT) meeting, which aims to facilitate dialogue between community partners and council members regarding local refinery operations.

Trustee Hirsch shared insights from a recent event called Generation Wealth, organized with support from Travis Credit Union. The event allowed students to engage with various booths representing different industries, providing them with practical financial experiences. The excitement among students was palpable, with some expressing the need to adjust their purchasing decisions based on their available funds.

Overall, the meeting reflected a commitment to inclusivity and community engagement within the educational framework, showcasing the positive initiatives being implemented in local schools.
