City plans $8 million regional park amid funding concerns

Commissioner Davis commended the city of Spring Hill for contributing 50% of the project funding and highlighted the success of the due diligence process in property acquisition. He raised concerns regarding the allocation of funds from a previously appropriated $1.5 million for land purchases related to a regional park. The discussion revealed that some of these funds had already been utilized for other projects, including lighting for local schools.

The need for a regional park, which would include multiple sports fields and recreational facilities, remains a priority. However, there are concerns about whether the remaining funds will suffice for future land purchases, particularly as a developer is expected to donate land that could alleviate some of the financial burden.

Commissioner Brockman inquired about the cost of land, confirming that the price of $47,000 per acre aligns with previous purchases made by the school system. The meeting underscored the balancing act of addressing immediate community needs while ensuring long-term recreational goals are met.
