Public hearing opens for controversial concrete plant proposal

The Planning Department recommended approval of the request, highlighting that the applicant had addressed a technical deficiency related to the drainage report. However, the applicant must still improve the turn lane on Capehart Road, pending approval from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, before commencing operations. Additionally, the applicant is working on obtaining a core permit for the construction of necessary restroom facilities on-site.

During the public hearing segment, no community members came forward to provide testimony, either in support or opposition to the project. A commissioner raised concerns regarding dust suppression measures, specifically whether they would be implemented outside of operational hours, particularly during high wind conditions. The applicant's representative confirmed that dust suppression would primarily occur during operational hours, with potential measures taken in response to environmental conditions.
