Community unites for 40th National Night Out celebration

On Tuesday night, the City of Jacksonville celebrated the 40th annual National Night Out, an event aimed at fostering community-police relations. Originally scheduled for August, the event was postponed due to high temperatures, but attendees enjoyed a pleasant evening as the threat of rain held off.

The celebration saw a strong turnout, with community members coming together to support local law enforcement, including both human officers and their canine counterparts. Notably, one of the four-legged officers, named Brakes, is set to retire soon but participated in the festivities.

City officials praised the collaborative efforts of various departments, including Parks and Recreation, which played a significant role in the event's success. The involvement of local partners, such as the city council, county commissioners, and even Camp Lejeune's band, contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.

The mayor and city manager expressed gratitude to the staff for their hard work and dedication in organizing the event, highlighting the positive representation of Jacksonville within the community. Following the celebration, the meeting transitioned to officer elections, inviting nominations for chairperson and vice chair.
