Major shoreline alteration proposal sparks community debate

During a recent government meeting, the Stearns County Planning Commission convened to discuss a significant conditional use permit request from the Clark Family Trust. The application seeks approval for a major shoreland alteration on steep slopes within the shore impact zone of Sauk Lake, located at 44387 Sauk View Drive in Sauk Center, Minnesota.

The property in question spans approximately 1.1 to 1.7 acres and is identified as lots 22 and 23 of Evelyn's addition in section 34 of Sauk Center Township. The request falls under section 10.2.14 d of the Stearns County Land Use and Zoning Ordinance number 439, which governs alterations in sensitive shoreland areas.

The meeting, chaired by District 4 representative Sean Blackburn, included participation from various district representatives and county officials. The commission is tasked with evaluating the potential environmental impacts of the proposed alterations, particularly given the sensitive nature of the shoreland area involved.

As discussions progress, the commission will consider the implications of the alteration on local ecosystems and community interests, ensuring that any decisions align with established zoning regulations and environmental protection standards.
