Community leaders push for vital senior care facilities

The developers noted that rising construction costs have shifted the optimal size for such facilities, with current trends suggesting a need for larger buildings—up to 120 or 130 units—to achieve economic viability. However, they cautioned against going too large, as it could lead to a less personal environment for residents, particularly for those aged 85 and older who may struggle with longer distances within the facility.

The conversation also touched on the physical limitations of the site, which spans approximately 4.5 acres. The developers have maximized the available space while adhering to local zoning regulations, and expressed a desire for additional beds to meet community needs, though they acknowledged that they have reached the limits of the current site.
