School Committee Approves Exciting Overnight Trips for Students

During a recent school committee meeting, several overnight field trips were approved, highlighting the district's commitment to enriching student experiences through travel and education.

The first proposal, presented by the music department, involves a four-night trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for April 30 to May 4, 2025. The trip, which costs $930 per student, includes accommodations, meals, and visits to notable sites such as the Smithsonian, Mount Vernon, and the National Zoo. Students will also have the opportunity to perform with a local high school band and receive professional feedback from music professors at American University. Fundraising efforts are planned to help offset costs, and a new scholarship fund will assist students in need.

The committee also approved a trip for the Model United Nations club to Brown University from November 8 to 10, 2024. This trip will accommodate up to 12 students and costs approximately $250 to $275 per student, covering transportation, hotel, and delegation fees. The club anticipates a strong interest, with around 25 students currently involved.

Lastly, a trip to Montreal, Canada, was proposed for April 19 to 21, 2025. This two-night excursion will allow students to explore cultural sites, including the Museum of Fine Arts and McGill University, at a cost of $899 per student. The trip aims to provide an immersive French-speaking experience, with fundraising opportunities available to help manage costs.

All proposals received enthusiastic support from the committee, emphasizing the importance of these educational experiences in fostering student engagement and learning outside the classroom.
