In a recent meeting celebrating the achievements of Johnson County Public Schools, officials highlighted significant progress in academic performance and infrastructure development. Superintendent Dr. Bracey commended the dedication of staff and students, noting a rise in proficiency rates from 55.2% to 56.4% over the past year. The district has successfully reduced the number of low-performing schools from 14 to just one, showcasing a commitment to educational improvement.
Data presented revealed that 85% of schools in the district exceeded growth expectations, surpassing the state average of 75.2%. Notably, 27 schools improved their overall performance composite, with several institutions achieving higher letter grades. Benson Elementary, Clayton High, and Princeton Elementary moved from a C to a B grade, while Benson Middle, Four Oaks Middle, Virtual Academy, and Riverwood Middle improved from a D to a C.
The meeting also marked a significant milestone with the topping out ceremony for Swift Creek Elementary School, part of a project funded by the 2022 bond referendum. The new facility is set to open for the 2025-2026 school year and will accommodate nearly 1,000 students in a modern learning environment.
