City celebrates success of first multicultural festival post renovations

The recent government meeting highlighted the success of the Multicultural Festival held at Harmon Park, marking a significant event since the park's renovations. City officials expressed gratitude to various departments, including Public Works and the Police Department, for their contributions to the festival, which attracted attendees from as far as Chattanooga.

Looking ahead, the Taste of Canton event is scheduled for the 26th, with tickets already available online, a shift from previous years where tickets were purchased on-site. This year’s advance ticket sales are reportedly strong, indicating a positive response from the community.

Additionally, updates were provided on infrastructure projects, particularly regarding striping on recent paving efforts. City officials are coordinating with Cherokee County to address delays attributed to product and timing issues, with hopes to complete the work in the coming weeks.

The meeting also touched on the ongoing renovations at 151 Elizabeth Street, where remediation from a roof leak has been completed. The contractor, Southeast, has begun demolition work and will continue with renovations, having already been approved for the project.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on community development in the Sunnyside South Canton area. Officials reflected on the progress made since 2017, when initial community meetings were held to engage residents and stakeholders. The collaborative efforts have led to various projects in recreation, arts, and transportation, showcasing the importance of public input in shaping community initiatives.
