During a recent Chester County School District meeting, two students were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements on the SC READY state assessment. Ivy Rae Millwood, a 5th grader from Great Falls Elementary School, achieved a perfect score of 850 in math on her 4th-grade assessment. Beckham Daniel Bond, a 7th grader at Lewisville Middle School, earned a perfect score of 900 in English Language Arts on his 6th-grade assessment. Both students were celebrated for their accomplishments, with their families and school staff present to support them.
The meeting also honored Mackenzie Queen from Chester High School as the Support Staff Person of the Month. Queen was commended for her dependability and willingness to assist students and staff, earning her the nickname \"the queen\" for her versatility and dedication.
Additionally, Chester Park Inquiry received the August Staff Attendance Award for achieving a remarkable 97% attendance rate among its staff. The board plans to visit the school to celebrate this achievement.
The meeting included a public comment section, adhering to strict guidelines to ensure respectful discourse. One parent, Tom Laskowski, raised concerns regarding the lack of locker access for students at Lewisville Middle School, which he argued is impacting students' health due to heavy backpacks. He reported that his son, a student at the school, has been experiencing back pain from carrying a 15-pound backpack. Laskowski expressed frustration over the delay in assigning lockers, emphasizing the need for a solution to this issue.
The board listened to his concerns but did not engage in debate, as per their policy on public comments.
