Shoreline launches new initiative to combat homelessness

In a recent government meeting, Shoreline officials discussed a variety of community initiatives and updates, including a free outdoor event featuring local artist Roger Fernandez, who will share traditional stories from Coast Salish tribes. The event, aimed at fostering cultural connections, will take place at the Shoreline Museum on September 30 from 10 AM to noon, and will include hands-on activities and tours.

Additionally, the meeting included public reminders about upcoming gatherings, such as the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services meeting on September 26 and the next city council meeting on October 30. Councilor Muskogee reported on his recent engagement with the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and encouraged community members to visit the Shoreline Historical Museum.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to an update from the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) regarding homelessness services in Shoreline. The council reaffirmed its commitment to addressing homelessness, referencing a resolution passed in 2015 that declared a homelessness emergency in King County. The city has been collaborating with KCRHA to develop an interlocal agreement aimed at enhancing homelessness services, with funding allocated for various programs in the current biennium.

KCRHA representatives provided insights into their leadership changes and ongoing efforts to improve homelessness response strategies in North King County. They highlighted the importance of collaboration among local governments and the establishment of a subregional plan to address homelessness effectively. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining service levels for homelessness support in Shoreline, with further discussions planned for the upcoming budget presentation on October 21.
