Residents demand action on dangerous school drop-off traffic

In a recent government meeting, community members voiced concerns regarding local traffic issues, particularly around school drop-off zones. Residents from the Encore neighborhood highlighted ongoing problems with parents dropping off their children in front of their homes, creating safety hazards and congestion. Juan Lorenzo, a long-time resident, expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement, noting that despite previous efforts by the sheriff's office, violations continue unabated.

Lorenzo urged city officials to increase ticketing in the area, suggesting that consistent enforcement would deter parents from ignoring traffic regulations. He emphasized the need for immediate action, especially as the school year progresses and traffic increases.

Another resident, Anna Harding, echoed these sentiments, sharing her own experiences with the daily chaos caused by drop-offs. She called for the city to take more decisive measures to address the issue, particularly as it affects the quality of life for long-standing residents.

In response, city officials acknowledged the problem and assured residents that measures are being taken. Commissioner Schroder noted that the city recently increased the fine for violations from $25 to $100 and confirmed that law enforcement is actively issuing citations. He mentioned that over 100 traffic citations related to school zones have already been issued under a revised ordinance.
