Digital Inclusion Week Celebrated with Major Funding Push

During a recent government meeting, Jennifer Blatz, Program Director for the Greater Pittsburgh Digital Inclusion Alliance, received a proclamation in honor of Digital Inclusion Week. This annual event aims to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring that all individuals, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, have access to information and communication technologies.

Blatz emphasized the collaborative efforts of numerous nonprofit organizations dedicated to this cause, highlighting the theme for this year, \"Stronger Together: Mobilizing Towards Sustainability.\" She noted that the Greater Pittsburgh Digital Inclusion Alliance is part of a national network of nearly 2,000 affiliates working towards digital inclusion.

In a significant development, Blatz announced that the coalition, in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh and 12 other organizations, has submitted a federal funding application for $17 million to enhance digital inclusion efforts in the region. She stressed the need for ongoing strategies and investments to dismantle historical barriers to access, asserting that economic mobility benefits the entire community.

The meeting also recognized Standing Firm, a local organization celebrating its 15th anniversary. Council members expressed their support for the organization's contributions to the community, with program director Megan Rose and colleague Karen Sellers set to provide further insights into their work.
