In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing chronic absenteeism and enhancing academic performance within the district. A task force, led by Mr. Peoples, has been established to revamp independent studies, incorporating innovative Saturday camps where students actively engage in their learning. The district aims to reduce chronic absenteeism from the current rate of 27.2% to 17.2%, a significant 10% decrease.
Additionally, the district is focusing on college and career readiness, particularly for middle school students. Officials reported that currently, 27.1% of fifth graders achieve performance levels of three or four in math and reading, with a goal to increase this figure to 37.1%. For eighth graders, the High School Readiness Indicator (HSRI) currently stands at 43.6%, with aspirations to raise it to 53.6%.
Furthermore, the district is committed to improving the A through G completion rates at the high school level, aiming to boost the current rate of 35.1% to 45.1%. This initiative underscores the district's dedication to providing structured programs and support to ensure that all students have the opportunity to pursue higher education if they choose.
