Pre K program boosts kindergarten readiness and academic success

During a recent meeting of the Williston Basin School District Board, significant discussions centered around the impact of the pre-kindergarten program on student readiness and academic achievement. Dr. Fadley highlighted that every student from last year's pre-K class entered kindergarten equipped with the necessary skills, attributing this success to the pre-K program. As more students participate in pre-K, the district anticipates a reduction in the need for tier 3 interventions, which are designed for students requiring additional support. This shift could lead to improved academic outcomes, as teachers may be able to advance students from tier 2 to tier 1 more effectively.

Board member Mr. Judd raised concerns about the declining culture of reading at home, suggesting that societal changes have led to fewer parents reading to their children. He emphasized that this trend poses a broader challenge, not just for the district but for communities at large, as children increasingly turn to smartphones instead of books.

In addition to educational discussions, the board approved bid package 2 for the construction of a new elementary school. Ryan Anderson from JE Dunn provided details about the bids received for structural steel work, which are essential for the project's progression. The next phase, bid package 3, is currently out for bids, indicating ongoing progress in the district's infrastructure development.
