Community mourns loss of influential leader Alan Swartz

During a recent government meeting, officials paid tribute to Alan M. Swartz, a prominent figure in Torrance, who passed away. Swartz, known for his extensive contributions to the community, was remembered for his deep roots in the area and his legacy of service and leadership.

Swartz was the grandson of Sam Levy, one of Torrance's first businessmen and philanthropists, and he maintained a lifelong connection to the city. His influence spanned various sectors, including the arts, education, civic affairs, and politics. He served as the past president of the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce and was recognized as the Torrance Chamber of Commerce's businessman of the year during its 60th anniversary.

In addition to his business acumen, Swartz played a pivotal role in retaining the Los Angeles Air Force Base during the base closures of the 1990s, collaborating with Congresswoman Jane Harmon. He led Asset Management Solutions, a real estate management company, and was involved in the entertainment industry, negotiating deals with major broadcasting and cable companies.

Swartz's commitment to the arts and education was evident through his roles as a trustee for the California Summer School of the Arts and various leadership positions with institutions such as Tel Aviv University. His dedication to community service extended to his work with Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital and the Harbor UCLA Community Advisory Board.

He is survived by his son, Adam, and daughter-in-law, Isabel, both of whom are active members of the Torrance community. The meeting concluded with heartfelt condolences extended to Swartz's family and a recognition of his lasting impact on Torrance and the surrounding region.
