IT Director Revolutionizes School Technology with Major Upgrades

In a recent meeting, Chris Brown, the Director of Information Services for Summer County Schools, highlighted significant advancements in the district's technology infrastructure and the ongoing implementation of a one-to-one iPad initiative. Brown, who has been with the district since 2007 and is the longest-serving IT director in its history, emphasized the importance of investing in network capabilities to support educational technology.

Over the past few years, the district has made substantial investments in its network infrastructure, which has streamlined operations for Brown and his team. Brown detailed the scale of the district's technology resources, managing over 28,000 iPads, 10,000 laptops and desktops, and a robust network with 36,000 simultaneous wireless connections on school days. He explained the shift from a checkerboard wireless coverage model to a density model, ensuring that every classroom is equipped with adequate wireless access points to support the influx of devices.
