Council Approves Paving Project Amid Stormwater Concerns

During the recent borough council meeting, officials addressed several key items, including appointments to local commissions and a significant paving project at Fisher Park.

The council began with a call for public interest in vacancies on the Civil Service Commission, Tree Advisory Commission, and potentially the Human Relations Commission. Residents were encouraged to contact their bureau council person for guidance on the application process.

In new business, the council unanimously approved the appointment of Eckert, Seaman, Sharon, and Marlette, LLC as the borough's labor and employment attorneys. This decision was made with the stipulation that the terms of engagement would be negotiated by the borough council president, borough manager, and borough solicitor.

The council also discussed a waiver request for stormwater management regulations related to the Fisher Park paving project. The proposed expansion aims to alleviate parking issues caused by informal parking on grass areas, which has led to damage and erosion. The plan includes creating designated parking spaces and installing signage to prohibit parking on the grass.

Concerns were raised regarding existing stormwater challenges in the park, particularly the saturation of certain areas after rainfall. Borough officials assured council members that the proposed paving would not exacerbate these issues, as measures would be taken to direct stormwater runoff effectively.

The council confirmed that the project is funded through the 2024 budget and is expected to commence soon, with the goal of completing the paving before the end of the month. The meeting concluded without any public hearings, focusing instead on these administrative and infrastructural developments.
