City Council Approves Major Expansion for St Jude Hospital

In a recent Memphis City Council meeting, significant resolutions were passed, including the approval of a major expansion plan for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The council also approved a resolution to close St. Jude Place between Danny Thomas Boulevard and Lane Avenue, which is part of the hospital's ongoing development efforts. This resolution, sponsored by the Division of Planning and Development, received unanimous support from council members.

In addition, the council accepted a $50,000 grant from Amazon aimed at creating tech and recreational spaces in community centers across several districts. Another resolution was passed to amend the Memphis City Council Community Grant Program, ensuring continued support for local initiatives.

The meeting also addressed the tourist surcharge related to the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Memphis, which was approved, along with amendments to the insurance fund disbursement process and the Accelerate Memphis program.
