New drive-through restaurant plan sparks community interest

In a recent government meeting, plans for a new drive-through restaurant on West Towne Street were discussed, highlighting significant developments in local infrastructure and zoning compliance. The proposed project involves the demolition of the existing Grange building and the construction of a new facility, which will cover approximately 920 square feet.

The design includes a front entrance facing West Towne Street, with a dual pickup window positioned for customer convenience. Access to the site will be managed through a one-way entrance and exit, allowing right turns only, which aims to streamline traffic flow and minimize disruptions on the busy roadway. The configuration has been reviewed by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which confirmed that the sight lines and access points meet regulatory standards.

Traffic circulation around the site is planned to be counterclockwise, with a bypass lane and a drive-through lane designed to accommodate a queue of up to 298 feet—well above the city and DOT requirements. The parking plan includes six spaces, including a van-accessible handicap spot, addressing both customer and employee needs.

Additional features of the proposal include pedestrian access from both the front and rear of the building, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. Trash management will be facilitated through a designated enclosure, and measures will be taken to prevent littering, including the placement of trash receptacles along the drive-through lane.

Lighting for the site will consist of pole-mounted fixtures to enhance safety and visibility for both pedestrians and vehicles. The project aims to enhance local dining options while adhering to community standards and regulations.
