Residents demand clarity on zoning and airstrip safety

During a recent government meeting in Milliken, Colorado, residents voiced significant concerns regarding a proposed development adjacent to their properties. Mel Callan, a local property owner, raised alarms about the potential impact of the development on his FAA-registered airstrip, which has been in operation for 30 years. Callan emphasized the need for clear communication between the developer and future property owners to prevent conflicts related to air traffic, particularly given that the north end of his runway is only 700 feet from the proposed development site.

Callan detailed the specifics of his airstrip, including its length of 2,500 feet and the necessary flight paths for takeoff and landing, which require aircraft to descend below 1,000 feet. He expressed concerns about noise and safety, urging the city and developers to inform all current and future residents about the airstrip's operations.

Another resident, Rosemarie Eining, echoed Callan's sentiments, questioning the lack of clarity regarding the final plans for the development. She stressed the importance of understanding the project's implications before any annexation occurs.
