Parents Rally to Rescind Religious Instruction Policy

During a recent government meeting, several community members voiced their support for rescinding the policy regarding release time for religious instruction in Westerville Schools. Dr. Katrina Cook, a parent of two students in the district, initiated the discussion by expressing her support for the policy change. She was followed by several other parents, including Becky Leach Seymour and Becca Meacham, who echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for a reevaluation of the policy.

Seymour, who has a daughter set to enter kindergarten in 2025, and Meacham, a parent of a child in early learning, both articulated their concerns regarding the implications of the current policy. Jamie Parks, another parent from the same neighborhood, also joined the chorus of support for rescinding the policy, highlighting the collective concern among parents regarding its impact on their children's education.

Elise Smith, a parent of two children in Westerville Schools, reinforced the call for change, aligning her views with those of the previous speakers. The meeting also featured a student, Lucy Walk, who shared insights about her involvement in the equity team at Emerson School, although her comments shifted focus from the policy discussion.
