School Celebrates Historic Science Achievement with Statewide Recognition

During a recent government meeting, educators from Dogwood Elementary School celebrated their 5th grade science team's remarkable achievement of placing first in the state. Laura Coleman, representing the team, expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the collaborative efforts of teachers, administrators, and the Germantown Education Foundation in fostering a supportive learning environment.

Coleman acknowledged the challenges faced by educators, particularly with the introduction of a new math curriculum that required significant time and energy. She credited Miss Ledford for her guidance in enriching the science curriculum, which helped alleviate some of the pressure associated with preparing students for state assessments.

The importance of science education was emphasized, with Coleman noting that 5th grade science scores are critical for the school's overall performance. She also praised the grants provided by the Germantown Education Foundation, which enabled the implementation of creative science clubs for students in grades 3 through 5.

Coleman highlighted the integration of STEM education within the district, stating that it prepares students for a future where science and technology are highly valued. She acknowledged the contributions of English Language Arts (ELA) teachers in equipping students with essential reading skills necessary for success in science assessments.
