Track Renovation Plan Sparks Excitement for Houston High School

In a recent government meeting, the board discussed the approval of a significant renovation project for the Houston High School track and field facilities. The proposal includes a base bid and an additional alternate option aimed at enhancing the school's athletic capabilities.

The primary focus of the renovation is to address the deteriorating condition of the existing track, which has required ongoing patchwork repairs. The plan involves milling down the current surface and installing a new track, which will also expand the facility to include an eighth lane, a requirement for hosting state-level events.

Mister Manuel outlined the various components of the project, which encompasses not only the track resurfacing but also necessary concrete work around the facility to address issues caused by settling ground and tree roots. The renovation will also involve modifications to the fencing and bleachers to accommodate the new track layout.

The motion currently on the table seeks to approve the base bid along with alternate 3, which covers the track renovation, home bleachers, press box, and VIP seating, while also addressing minimal work on the visitor side for accessibility.

Board member Mister Curry expressed support for the motion, highlighting its multifaceted benefits for the school and community. The discussion is now open for further input from board members as they consider the implications of this significant investment in the school's athletic infrastructure.
