Funding decisions spark debate over opioid settlement allocations

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the challenges surrounding the allocation of funding for various applications, particularly in light of a limited budget of $10.8 million against requests totaling $16 million. The meeting highlighted the complexity of managing 103 applications, with plans for two special meetings to provide further information and finalize decisions by October.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on the distribution of opioid settlement funds. The board recommended funding two organizations: Live4Lolly and Mathers Recovery. Live4Lolly's request for $498,900 was noted as being lower than their previous annual budget request of over $500,000, reflecting discrepancies in their application. Despite these challenges, the recommended funding represents an increase from the prior year. Mathers Recovery is also set to present its new program in one of the upcoming October meetings.

Additionally, board members addressed concerns regarding the funding of multiple programs within the same agency. They confirmed that accommodations are made for providers to transfer funds between programs, provided the amount is under $30,000, allowing for greater flexibility in managing resources.
