Redevelopment plan transforms obsolete building into entertainment hub

In a recent government meeting, officials approved the minutes from the previous session held on August 28, 2024, without any objections. The primary focus of the meeting was the discussion of a significant redevelopment project at 975 Ottawa Avenue Northwest, proposed by MWS Ottawa LLC.

The project aims to transform an obsolete two-story building, encompassing 45,000 square feet, into an entertainment facility named Silva. The redevelopment plan includes a restaurant, an event space, outdoor seating, a gaming area, and a bocce center featuring five courts. Additionally, a small parking garage with 28 spaces is planned for the southern end of the building.

The total estimated cost for the project is approximately $16.5 million, with $15.1 million allocated for construction. The developers are seeking over $1 million in reimbursement from the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) to cover eligible activities such as demolition, site preparation, and environmental remediation, including lead and asbestos abatement. The reimbursement agreement is set to extend over 24 years, with an additional five years for the Local Brownfield Revolving Fund (LBRF).

The project has already received the necessary approvals from the planning commission earlier this month, indicating a positive step forward in revitalizing the area and enhancing local amenities.
