Board honors legacy of two beloved community leaders

The Lake County Board of Supervisors held its regular meeting on October 8, 2024, beginning with a moment of silence to honor two esteemed community members who recently passed away. Supervisor Green led the remembrance for Bob Paiva, a dedicated educator with over 30 years of service at Lakeport Unified School District, who died on September 30. Paiva was known for teaching family life education, social studies, and driver's education, leaving a lasting impact on his students and the community.

The board also paid tribute to Stanton Loane Jones, who passed away on September 23 at the age of 81 after battling cancer. Jones, a former Army medic, served 28 years with the California Highway Patrol and was actively involved in community service, including volunteering with the Lake County gleaners and holding leadership roles in local organizations. He is survived by his wife Ruby, three daughters, eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the California Highway Patrol Widows and Orphans Fund.

The meeting continued with Vice Chair Crandall taking over the proceedings following the tributes.
