Student Leader Inspires Blood Donation Drive Success

During a recent government meeting, President Carolyn Watson led a roll call that included members Cindy Rogen, Monica Webster, Jay Norris, and Belli Aramaki. The meeting featured a special introduction of Arushi Sinha, a senior at Bellevue Big Picture School, who was recognized for receiving the Washington STEM annual award as a STEM rising star. Watson expressed pride in Arushi's achievement and invited her to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and a land acknowledgment, honoring the indigenous Coast Salish peoples.

Arushi shared highlights from a recent blood drive organized by her school in partnership with Bloodworks Northwest, which successfully collected around 20 units of blood and engaged 41 potential donors. She emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that her efforts motivated 28 first-time donors to participate, particularly in light of national blood shortages.

The meeting also acknowledged significant observances, including National Hispanic Heritage Month, National Suicide Prevention Month, the International Day of Peace, and the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools. Following these discussions, the agenda and consent agenda were unanimously approved by the members present.
