Developer reveals revised plan for controversial Woodlands Subdivision

During a recent government meeting, Tom Easterly, representing Ascension Properties, presented a revised preliminary plat for The Woodlands Subdivision, located on Highway 44 in Council District 8. The new proposal significantly reduces the number of lots from an originally approved 697 to just 39, each exceeding 2 acres in size, with some lots reaching over 3 acres.

Easterly emphasized that the development aims to feature high-quality homes priced at approximately $450,000 and above. The proposed building covenants include strict guidelines, such as a minimum setback of 75 feet for houses and design requirements for any storage buildings to match the main homes.

The development has faced controversy and litigation in the past, but the current plan reflects extensive discussions with the planning department. A comprehensive drainage study, previously conducted for the larger development plan, indicated that the drainage characteristics of the property would not adversely affect surrounding areas. The drainage system will utilize an open dish system to manage water runoff effectively.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts to balance development with community concerns, as stakeholders continue to engage in discussions about the future of The Woodlands Subdivision.
