Community leaders push for support of LGBTQ youth

In a recent government meeting, discussions highlighted the importance of support for LGBTQ youth, particularly trans children, emphasizing that having just one supportive adult can significantly reduce their risk of suicide by approximately 40%. This statistic, drawn from research by the Trevor Project, underscores the critical role of community support in combating bullying and fostering mental health among vulnerable youth.

The meeting also featured a series of proclamations recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Substance Abuse Prevention Month, Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Additionally, October 6th through 12th was designated as Fire Prevention Week, with the fire chief present to acknowledge the importance of fire safety.
