During a recent government meeting, local officials celebrated the remarkable achievements of the Jones County cross country teams, highlighting their impressive performance and community impact over the past few years.
The meeting featured a recap of a significant race held last Saturday, which attracted 2,300 spectators and included 1,400 runners. The boys' team has achieved an extraordinary record of 105 wins and no losses, making them back-to-back region champions and currently ranked second in Georgia's 4A classification. The girls' team has also excelled, winning three out of five meets and securing a second-place finish in the others, with a record of 92 wins and two losses, ranking them first in the region and seventh statewide.
Coaches praised the dedication and hard work of their athletes, noting that many of the boys have been training together since sixth grade. The teams are preparing for the upcoming Great American Cross Country Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, which will feature 15,000 runners from across the United States.
