New Braunfels honors community's living legends

During a recent government meeting in New Braunfels, community leaders and residents gathered to honor three individuals recognized as \"Living Legends\" for their significant contributions to the city and its residents. Mayor Neil Leonards presented proclamations celebrating the achievements of Robert \"Rusty\" Brockman, Maurice Dewey Fisher, and Dr. Carlos Campos.

Robert Brockman, a retired educator and former mayor, was acknowledged for his 30-year career in education, his role in economic development, and his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. His extensive volunteer work includes positions with the United Way and the Comal County Crisis Center, among others. Brockman has received multiple accolades, including the Herald Zeitung Citizen of the Year award in 1993.

Maurice Fisher, a local businessman and philanthropist, was recognized for his contributions to the community through his family's construction company and his support of various civic organizations. Notably, he donated land to create Fisher Park, the largest park in the New Braunfels park system. Fisher has also served in leadership roles within the Wurstfest Association.

Dr. Carlos Campos, a physician and community advocate, was honored for his commitment to public health and education. He founded a nonprofit organization that led to the establishment of the Westside Community Center, which provides essential services such as diabetes education and after-school programs. Campos has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus by the New Braunfels Independent School District and received several awards for his contributions to health improvement.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for citizens to address the city council on various issues, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in local governance.
