City plans exciting interactive splash pad and community stage

In a recent government meeting, plans for a new interactive water feature and community space were discussed, aimed at enhancing local recreation and accessibility. The proposed splash pad, to be located where the old middle school and cafeteria once stood, will feature a faux stream design, offering a unique play experience compared to traditional splash pads with toys and buttons.

Adjacent to the splash pad, an indoor-outdoor restroom facility is planned to serve both the water feature and the nearby Chieftain Museum. This addition addresses the current lack of restrooms on the museum's main floor and aims to meet ADA requirements, providing essential amenities for visitors.

The project also includes an expansion of the parking area, which will add a fourth row to the existing three, facilitating better access for visitors. Landscaping plans have been designed to allow for easy modifications in the future, ensuring that the area remains visually appealing while accommodating growth.

A stage is also part of the development, equipped with utilities for events such as farmers' markets and food trucks. Funding for sound equipment and other necessary items has already been secured through donations made in memory of local resident Greg Foulkes, who passed away two years ago.

As discussions continue, officials are considering the scale of events the stage will accommodate, weighing options between hosting larger concerts or smaller community gatherings like dance recitals. The meeting highlighted a commitment to creating a vibrant community space that serves diverse needs and enhances local culture.
