In a recent government meeting, the Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a new farm winery to be established at 214 North Minnesota Street. The applicant, Mark Hunder, acting on behalf of a yet-to-be-named business entity, plans to operate a winery alongside a full bar and restaurant. The project aims to enhance the local dining and beverage scene, with an anticipated opening date set for June 2024.
The commission attached six specific conditions to the permit to ensure compliance and safety. These include the requirement for the property owner to cover the recording costs at the Brown County Recorder's Office, maintain necessary state and federal licenses for alcohol dispensing, and adhere to outdoor seating regulations. Additionally, the winery must not have external storage for winemaking processes, must avoid external manufacturing impacts on neighboring properties, and must implement safety measures for pedestrians during loading and unloading activities.
While the upper floor of the building remains vacant for now, future plans may involve its use, although any changes would need to comply with building codes. The winery's operational model is designed to minimize disruption, with wine transport occurring primarily during designated harvest times rather than on a weekly basis.
The commission's decision reflects a growing interest in diversifying local businesses and enhancing community offerings, following a similar approval for a winery across the street two years prior. The motion to approve the permit was unanimously supported by the council members present.
