Residents demand action on persistent pollution and noise issues

In a recent government meeting, concerns were raised regarding ongoing issues related to the installation of generators and smoke stacks at a local facility, originally approved in 2015. A resident highlighted discrepancies between the initial site plans and the current situation, noting that generators were not part of the original proposal and have since caused significant disturbances.

The resident emphasized that despite multiple attempts to address the problem, including modifications to the smoke stack heights in 2020 and subsequent adjustments in 2021 and 2023, the emissions and noise from the generators remain problematic. The fumes have been reported to infiltrate residential areas, particularly affecting homes located uphill from the facility.

The discussion also included a memorandum from VHB, which presented statistics on emissions. However, the resident criticized the methodology used in the report, arguing that it misrepresents the actual emissions during active burning periods by averaging data over the entire year, thus downplaying the environmental impact.

The resident urged the governing body to prioritize resolving the issues on the southern side of the property before considering further developments on the northern side, stressing the need for immediate action to mitigate the ongoing disturbances.
