Mayors rally support for crucial ballot initiative

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed an upcoming resolution that has garnered widespread support from various local organizations, including the Metro Mayors Caucus and several chambers of commerce. The resolution, which pertains to a ballot issue from the Regional Transportation District (RTD), is set to be presented to voters in the coming weeks.

Director Geisinger emphasized the importance of promoting ballot issue 7A, which is positioned at the bottom of a lengthy ballot. He urged council members to utilize their voter guides and newsletters to encourage constituents to support the measure. The resolution has received endorsements from numerous environmental and disability advocacy groups, highlighting its broad appeal.

During the meeting, Geisinger clarified that the proposed measure does not include a sunset provision, meaning it will remain in effect indefinitely. Polling conducted in April indicated strong public support for the measure, with 68% favoring it without a sunset and 70% supporting it with a sunset. This feedback led to the decision to proceed without a sunset clause.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, as officials prepared to engage with community members on various topics. The council is expected to revisit the resolution later in the meeting, underscoring its significance in the upcoming electoral process.
