New housing project aims to unite diverse families

Ali, a representative from the development team, highlighted the shift from an initial plan for an apartment building to a new scheme that focuses on family-oriented units. The team emphasized their commitment to including affordable housing options on-site, despite the high costs associated with such units. \"We don't intend to give them up,\" Ali stated, underscoring the project's dedication to inclusivity.

Dave Bacon, the development director at Trailbreak Partners, expressed his personal connection to the area, having lived there since 2009. He conveyed enthusiasm for the project and reassured attendees of the team's local ties and commitment to the community.

Danica Powell from Trestle Strategy Group provided a timeline of the project, detailing the evolution of the proposal through various planning stages. She noted that the team had initially presented two concept plans to the planning board and city council, with the latter encouraging a higher density approach. However, changes in zoning interpretations in 2023 necessitated a reevaluation of their strategy.

The developers have since regrouped and submitted a revised plan that aligns with current zoning regulations and market demands. Powell also mentioned recent meetings with the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) and the Burra, which had not convened since 2014, to discuss transportation connections related to the project.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from the development team to continue engaging with the community and addressing any concerns as they move forward with the project.
