Brockton Schools Donate Surplus Helmets to Save Our Sports

In a recent meeting of the Brockton School Committee, members unanimously approved the donation of surplus football helmets to the nonprofit organization Save Our Sports. The decision, proposed by the vice chair, was based on the helmets being deemed valueless as they were set to be discarded. The initiative aims to repurpose the helmets through raffles or sales, with proceeds directed back to the school committee for appropriate funding.

The meeting also highlighted improvements in school safety and security, largely attributed to the implementation of Yonder packs and increased support staff presence. Officer Mosley, the police liaison, reported a positive shift in the school environment compared to previous years, although he acknowledged ongoing challenges. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with local authorities and encouraged parental involvement in promoting safety measures, such as students wearing identification and removing hoodies.

Additionally, the school police plan to advertise a new entry exam for prospective officers in mid-December to January, aiming to bolster their team further. The meeting underscored a commitment to enhancing student safety and community engagement, with officers actively mentoring youth and encouraging positive choices post-graduation.
