Prospera empowers Hispanic entrepreneurs in Kissimmee

During a recent government meeting, the Kissimmee City Commission discussed the approval of a $20,000 agreement with Pressfair, aimed at advancing Hispanic businesses in the area. Samaya Singleton, representing economic development, emphasized the importance of this partnership, which has been instrumental in providing business education and technical assistance to the Hispanic community.

Vice President Katia Medina of Prospera, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Hispanic entrepreneurs, presented an annual update on their impact in Kissimmee. Medina highlighted that Prospera has been pivotal in helping local businesses thrive through bilingual assistance and various resources. Over the past five years, Prospera has provided consulting services to over 2,500 clients in Central Florida, resulting in the creation or retention of nearly 3,900 jobs and facilitating $13 million in loans.

In Kissimmee specifically, Prospera assisted 108 unique clients last year, with 183 participating in educational sessions. The organization secured $460,000 in loans for local businesses and invested $27,000 in business advancement services, including comprehensive business and marketing plans.

Medina also recognized local entrepreneur Lorena Martinez, owner of Daisy Events and Rentals, who has benefited from Prospera's services since 2020. Martinez has successfully rebranded her business and diversified her offerings, showcasing the tangible impact of the support provided by Prospera.

The meeting underscored the city's commitment to fostering economic growth within the Hispanic community, with plans to continue leveraging partnerships and resources to enhance local business development.
