Community rallies for new farmers market and development plans

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several community initiatives, including preparations for the upcoming Memorial Day parade and the establishment of a Farmers Market. The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 29, starting at 10 a.m. from Legion Grace Church, with plans to feature a vintage fire truck, contingent on its sale status.

The Farmers Market, set to launch on July 11 and run through September 26, will take place every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Organizers, led by Judy Williams, aim to provide food assistance to local families in need. The market will be located in the city hall parking lot, and while the city is facilitating the event, officials clarified that the city will not be liable for its operations.

Additionally, discussions included the potential development of the 619 project, which aims to enhance infrastructure in New Franklin. Officials highlighted the importance of extending sewer services without imposing costs on residents, emphasizing that this could be a rare opportunity for community growth and improvement.
