Daycare expansion approved amid community concerns

During a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around the approval of a conditional use permit (CUP) for a kindergarten class and daycare facility in Hialeah. The application, presented by Cesar Mestre on behalf of Genius Learning Center, seeks to maintain operations for an existing daycare accommodating up to 81 children and to expand services to include a kindergarten class with a maximum capacity of 22 students.

The facility is located at 5378 West 16th Avenue within a shopping center, which spans nearly 106,000 square feet. The existing daycare has been operational since 1996, and the proposed expansion aligns with the commercial zoning regulations of the area. The board noted that the application meets all necessary requirements, including sufficient parking and designated drop-off areas for children.

The board unanimously approved the motion to grant the CUP, contingent upon several conditions. These include the submission of building permits within three months, adherence to the specified maximum capacities for both the daycare and kindergarten, and the establishment of a declaration of restrictions to ensure compliance. The board emphasized the importance of these conditions, stating that violations could result in the revocation of the permit.
