Community leaders demand urgent infrastructure improvements for safety

During a recent government meeting, community representatives voiced urgent concerns regarding infrastructure improvements and public safety in their neighborhoods. Key discussions centered around the need for enhanced pedestrian facilities, traffic management, and stormwater management.

One speaker emphasized the importance of improving Reisterstown Road to accommodate both vehicular traffic and the needs of a growing pedestrian community, particularly among the local Orthodox population. The speaker advocated for the installation of sidewalks to ensure safety as the area becomes busier.

Catherine Driess, representing the Ruxton, Ridderwood, Lake Rowland Area Improvement Association, highlighted three critical issues. She called for a redesign of West Joppa Road to better handle heavy traffic and improve pedestrian safety. Driess also requested funding for crosswalks and sidewalks at the intersection of Charles Street and Stevenson Lane, which is vital for safe access to Lake Rowland. Additionally, she raised concerns about recurring flooding along Ruxton Road and Circle Road, urging updates to stormwater management practices to prevent dangerous conditions during heavy rainfall.

Kaitlyn Clem Kellner, president of the Linover Improvement Association, addressed the alarming frequency of water main breaks in her community, which have caused significant property damage. She stressed the need for improved sidewalks and lighting, particularly in school zones, to ensure the safety of students and residents. Kellner also pointed out the urgent need for enhancements at Fullerton Elementary School, citing safety concerns that have persisted for years.

The meeting underscored a collective call for action from community leaders, who are seeking government support to address these pressing infrastructure and safety issues.
