Students shine as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists announced

During a recent government meeting, significant recognition was given to local high school students for their academic achievements. Jennifer Wall, representing the Gainesville District, announced that six students from Prince William County Public Schools have been named semifinalists in the prestigious 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. This program, now in its 70th year, selected over 16,000 high school seniors nationwide.

To advance to the finalist stage, these semifinalists must complete a detailed scholarship application, which includes their academic records, extracurricular involvement, leadership experiences, and standardized test scores. The competition offers a total of 1,000 scholarships, amounting to nearly $26 million, to be awarded in the spring of 2025.

Wall specifically recognized Battlefield High School's Daniel Cho and Allen Ping as semifinalists, although they were unable to attend the meeting. Additionally, Vice Chair Lisa Zargarpur from the Coles District highlighted Isabella Carter from Charles J. Colgan High School for her selection as a semifinalist. The meeting underscored the commitment to celebrating student accomplishments and fostering academic excellence within the community.
