Economic growth sparks new jobs and investments in Boone County

In a recent government meeting, officials reported on significant economic developments and community initiatives in Boone County. Currently, there are 151 open projects, with 75 either committed, under construction, or completed in 2024. Notably, a fruit production group from the Chicago area is considering a location in Belvedere, which could create 25 new jobs and involve a $7 million investment.

Additionally, discussions included a brake pad manufacturer from Wisconsin looking to establish operations in Boone County, as well as a food ingredient company interested in the area. A new agribusiness is also exploring opportunities for a retreat event space on 100 acres in Northern County.

The meeting highlighted collaboration with the Regional 1 Planning Council to apply for a Department of Energy grant aimed at converting internal combustion engines to electric vehicle engines. This initiative seeks to engage local businesses in the auto industry and their suppliers.

Furthermore, preparations are underway for Manufacturing Day on October 24, and a job fair organized in partnership with the workforce connection was also discussed.

In other business, the board approved a resolution for the sale of surplus property, with all members voting in favor. The meeting concluded with a call for community involvement in local events, including a trick-or-treat event organized by the Chamber of Commerce.
